Material: SmartSilver
Manufacturer: NanoHorizons (U.S.)

Silver has been used for centuries to keep water potable and as an antibacterial in medicine, due to its ability to kill a broad spectrum of microbes. SmartSilver, a new, nanostructured version of silver (Ag), is an additive that permanently bonds to natural and synthetic fibers for lifetime odor control of a garment. Recently proven effective for wool by Australian Wool Innovation, a nonprofit organization for 35,000 wool farmers, the small (10-15 nanometer) Ag particles are chemically bonded to the surfaces of textiles and other materials. The antimicrobial effect is permanent and continuous, killing 99.9% of all bacteria. The silver may be applied to materials including cotton, polyester, and nylon, or onto a film. Potential applications include clothing (intimate apparel, thermal wear,) bed linens, and even your favorite cashmere sweater.
